                                                HOW  TO  RECYCLE                                                                                                                         

                                                IN DICKSON  COUNTY

 

  1. ALUMINUM CANS: All ten convenience centers and Shapiro’s,Bordeau Metals, Devandry’s.   Crush empty cans. If you take to Shapiro’s or Devandry’s you can get cash or contribute to “Cans  For Habitat for Humanity”.  Tell attendant your choice.
  2. Corrugated cardboard:  (All convenience centers)  Flatten boxes.
  3. Newspapers:  (Convenience centers except Vanleer and Bowker Road sites and

behind Dickson Co. Library. Do not place phone books, plastic bags, string, or trash in bin with papers. Several bins are located around county.

4   Magazines (All convenience centers except Vanleer and Bowker Road and

     behind Dickson County Library. You can also place  catalogs,(remove name tag                    from order form), paper (shredded, colored, white, computer, office etc.) manila or       white envelopes. Also Christmas cards. Do not place phone books, paperback or  hardback books, plastic  bags, string, or trash in bin.

5.   Metals (All convenience centers except Sylvis Road and Eno Road)  Place in bin              marked “Metals.” Tin food cans can be recycled at two sites, Charlotte and behind Library.  Do not have to remove label but do rinse out food left.

  1. Used Oil:  Can be taken to six locations if you “do it yourself”  Tractor Supply, Wal Mart Tire and Lube Express, Advance Auto Parts, Speed Lube,  Auto Zone, and the Landfill at l00 Virgil Bellar Drive in Dickson. We discourage holding for

            the house-hold hazardous waste collection  event.Recycle at one of six locations.

  1. Plastic: 1 throuth 7 #’s  Sites in Charlotte, Sylvis Road and behind Library in Dickson.  Check number  in symbol,  usually  on bottom of container.
  2. Phonebooks:   There is an annual phonebook drive. Watch newspaper for notices.

      9.    Used Tires:  Take tires to Landfill on Eno Road in Dickson.

  1. Hazardous Waste such as oil based paint and paint thinners, used oil, recycleable batteries, pesticides, household cleaners, automotive fluids of all kinds, swimming pool chemicals, wood preservatives, aerosol containers with spray paint or degreasers, etc can be brought to the  HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION to be held each year.  Watch for notices.  Usually in fall. Latex paint is not hazardous.  Air dry or add cat litter to solidify and dispose in regular trash. WE ENCOURAGE YOU RECYCLE OIL, ANTIFREEZE, BATTERIES LOCALLY AND NOT SAVE FOR THE EVENT.
  2. Christmas trees and cards:  Watch annually for notices for recycling drives.

      12. Store or market plastic bags :  Take back to store where you received, to recycle.     

  1.  Ink jet or laser toner cartridges:  Dickson Office Supply, Hwy 46, Dickson,Tn.

14. Computers and components:  Household hazardous waste event or Circuit City’s    

      program.  Go to website for info:  http://cc.eztradein.com/cc/ 

      15.  Cell phones:  Dickson County Sheriff’s Office or Women Are Safe Program

      16. Old Batteries: Alkaline batteries can be disposed of in regular trash. Rechargeable

           batteries can be brought to two locations in county. Dickson Co. Library in               

     Dickson and Courthouse Annex in Charlotte.  Look for box displayed.

17. Used Anti-freeze:  Take to Graham Ford on Hwy. 46 in Dickson.
