    The intent of this office is to protect the public’s life, health and welfare. This office holds the jurisdiction of the county and does not include the jurisdiction of the incorporated areas within this county. This job is not limited to the difficult task of understanding and working with architectural, engineering and construction concepts of building, plumbing, mechanical and fire codes. This office also enforces zoning for the county, subdivision of property, housing, environmental, traffic and various other county and state laws the directly affect the construction industry.

     

    The purpose of the code is to provide minimum housing standards deemed for safe and healthy living with safe and sanitary conditions.

     

    Also, the codes enforcement division of this department enforces provisions in the Dickson County Zoning Resolution that was adopted by the Dickson County Commission in October 1988. The codes enforcer, zoning director or building official has the right to enter any property or premises at any reasonable time to inspect properties or building(s) on said property that he or she may believe to be in violation of the current zoning resolution. 

     

    The intent of this department is to enforce the current zoning laws of Dickson County and the building codes that has been adopted by Dickson County. The responsibilities of this department includes but is not limited to issuing building permits and plumbing permits; collecting adequate facilities taxes for the incorporated areas of Dickson County as well as Dickson County, maintaining records and reports; generating correspondence; answering questions from the public which may include attorneys, real estates professionals, other county departments as well as state and federal personnel.  This department also reviews and approves subdivision splits as well as providing information to the Dickson County Planning Commission; zoning regulations compliances, preparing and coordinating requisitions for purchases; preparing statistical analyses; overseeing department accounting functions; preparing notification letters; preparing meeting agendas and compiling informational packages to the Dickson County Commission, Dickson County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Dickson County Planning Commission.
